By Stu Leventhal - Guru Marketing Tips Editor
Plenty claim to be a Web Guru; not many of us know what that means. It is about earning one's living via the internet.

Are you just dabbling online or are you bringing in real money and profit?

Every business, at this point, has realized the potential for wealth building that the internet presents to us all. The web allows you to promote globally. You also can get office stuff done for you cheap.

You can hire people across the ocean and sell over there too.

But there is a learning curve!

There are also a lot of folks making all sorts of claims out there in cyberspace. Business people, entrepreneurs especially, must be careful. Part of becoming a Web Guru curtails learning how to operate in a vast and varied arena where there is little to zero regulation. Folks can get away with a lot of shiffty, blurry and shady stuff online!

A Web Guru knows the signs that he or she is speaking with a wanna-be and not the real deal. A Web Guru can do just about anything there is to do online. If they do not know how then they know who to ask to learn how. A Web Guru does not need to upgrade his or her computer gadgetry every time the new versions are released.

It is not about the gadgetry, it is what you can make the gadgets do for you.

Remember, the web enhances what you can do pertaining to business but it does not replace business wisdom nor real business experience. One can do a lot of chores quicker via digital apparatus but can you make a business plan that will work? Do you know how to hire...the best?

Can you negotiate prices like an experienced pro... saving your company tons of money?

How are you at sales pitching? Networking?

Having the best computer equipment does not make you a business pro or a marketing wiz. You still need to know how to craft copy that gets people to actually order!

New tech is a blessing but you still have to do your research and homework and gain practical experience to know how to put the tech to great use...so you can beat your competitors.

How Well Do You Really Know Your Customers and Clients?
By Stu Leventhal ~ Editor (Guru Marketing Tips)

The customers and clients that you currently have are more important than the new customers and possible new clients that you seek. Keep your current clientele happy and they will bring you their friends and associates to do business with you too!

Yes, a referral based business is the strongest business you can operate.

A company’s wellbeing sure depends on finding and attracting new business. No matter how successful you are, you always want to grow and expand your customer base and thus gain more profits. Many increase their customers by expanding the sales territory they serve. This may include branching off into a, new-to-you, sector of the market place or marketing more aggressively to another customer demographic that you do not yet do so much business with.

Still, no matter what your business expansion plans are, you will do much better when you run the ideas past your current customers first. If you sell mainly to young single folks and you wish to go after seniors; well, don’t you believe that your younger loyal customers can help you by introducing your products and services and brand name to the older adults in their family and at work and their neighbors who are seniors? Of course they can!

Your current clients and loyal customers are your mouth pieces. Word-of-mouth advertising is still the most influential marketing a company can get and it is still the most elusive and hard to secure, too. You want to please your clients and customers; you also want them to like you more than they do your competitors. You want to crush your competition and that means giving more than the usual satisfaction to your customers and clients because your foes are always out to steal your clients away from you.

You do not want your products and services to be the best you want your employees to be the best too. The object is to make memorable experiences out of every engagement your company has with a customer. Impressing your customer usually requires you to do something extra that is not expected. Going the extra mile builds customer loyalty. But what should you do and where do you start?

Depending on your type of business, you can really make an impression often just by knowing your customers by their names when they frequent your establishment. If you do business on the phone, can you recognize someone from their voice and are you saying hi with their name? If they walk into your shop, do you smile as if you are glad to see them and greet them by their name? Are you using their first names when you email them or including a personal note when you snail mail a marketing piece or are all your messages just generic, one size fits all, emails and mailers?

Yes, advertising is easier to get out there when you do not take the time to make your sales pitch more personal. But more personal communication has much more success and is worth the extra effort!

Did you know that a more personal email subject phrase will get more people to open your emails and keep your emails from going directly into their spam filter file? If you are making the effort to craft a great email message, you want it to get opened; don’t you?

The thing is, besides when your customers do business with you, how much else do you really know about them personally, outside of their business persona? I would not say to you snoop on them but I would say converse with them on social media so you can build some other ways to connect besides just thru business and commerce issues. Maybe you’ll find that a big majority of your customer base are vegetarians so you can post a great nutritional vegetable recipe for them to enjoy. Ask them to post their favorite recipes to share with the rest of your vegan followers.

Perhaps you’ll find that your customers like; scuba diving or soccer or building robots which has gotten very popular these days. If you like any of those things too then by all means talk about them. You do not just have to talk about your field of expertise you can get less formal and relax with your topics. Be human, show you are a real person that your customers can relate too.

Do you prefer a certain charity that you support? Ask your customers if any of them too support your same preferred charity? Ask what other charities your customers support and why.
People have lives outside of work and shopping and doing business. They have families and friends and obligations and interests, hobbies, dreams… They like certain sports teams and celebrities. You can have enjoyable conversation and debates if you can get your customers to open up more to you.

Knowledge allows you to serve people better. Your ultimate goal is for your bond with one another to grow at least slightly stronger with your clients every time you engage with them.
More often than not, your customers will not volunteer info about themselves. But, knowing things about your clients that have seemingly nothing to do with your business relationship can make your relationships more special and long lasting.

You want referral business and good references and some flattering online reviews; this requires building a customer relationship that elevates your customers to feeling that they are more than just someone you pitch your products and services to. Your customers must think you are calling them to find out how they are doing, not just because it is the end of the month and you have not hit your sales quota yet.

Real interest, concern and empathy must be conveyed or you will come off as insincere. Sure you want suggestions about possible new profit making products you can create and ideas on how to improve your services. You want to hear what you are doing good at so you can keep doing it and even do more. You also need insight into what areas of your business need work on. You can benefit too from hearing about your competition so you can keep tabs on what business moves they are making. Lots of things get solved by better communicating.

Can you see how understanding your customers, means doing more than just analyzing their purchasing histories and buying habits? When was the last time you e-mailed your clients a questionnaire? Do you include satisfaction report cards in your product delivery packages and with your snail mailed bills? You need to do the work that makes it easy for your customers to give you feedback as well as some new info about them.

You want to know where on social platforms you can engage with them. Would they like getting a monthly email newsletter or would some other means of staying in touch be better for them.
Have you tried hosting an online webinar for your best clients or customers? Do you give special discounts, coupons, freebees and rewards to your best customers? How about inviting your customers to an offline, meet and greet at a local restaurant or popular music club or banquet hall to show your appreciation for their business. You can even invite or hire a special guest speaker to make the event educational and thus extra valuable for your customers.

But again it all comes down to learning from your customers themselves what they like and enjoy, so you can bring it to them. Once you know what motivates your customers you can give them more of it. This will get them to talk about you with the people they know who usually care about the same things that they do, thus you gain clients and new customers. You also can get your same current customers to buy more from you or use your services more. You can add a new service so you do more business with your current customers too. it is all about knowing your customers better. What are their problems? Who else do they do business with? Maybe you can partner up with someone in another non competing industry that is also connecting to your same pool of potential clients.

Do you know how your fans are finding your webpages? Your website should have analytics that can tell you from where in cyberspace they are arriving on your site. Now you know where you should place an ad to get more people like your current customers engaging with you. Your analytics should also shed light on which of your webpages are the most popular and what topics discussed are bringing you the most visitors. What pages do your visitors spend the most time on? Now you know what kind of posts and articles and discussions your customers want more of.

Which videos do your visitors watch the entire video? Which vids do your customers view only for a few seconds before clicking away? This tells you what kind of vids to add more of to your site. When you have analytics on your website you can test things and see the data and stats to learn if they worked. Remember, people do not always tell you what they really like but statistics tell you al that you need to know.

The reviews that your customers leave on business review sites about you and about your competitors also gives you more insight into what customers are really feeling. Knowing your customers better will make your advertising better because you will design your ads and commercials in a way that they can relate to. You will blog more successfully and social post things that gain you more customers because you know the kinds of post your customers engage with. Your product development is easy, when you know more about your customers too!
Every company is in business to serve their customers. Making the time to find out more about these loyal customers especially pays you dividends like nothing else!

You simply have to go the extra mile to know what pleases your customers if you wish to be the best in your industry! Tap into your customers’ aspirations and learn what really makes them tick and you become the company that all other companies want to emulate. That in its self will resonate with your customers and allow you to connect more deeply and meaningfully. Everyone will soon recognize that you are the leader in your field.

A big deal is when a company can connect in a human way not as a company which has no emotions and thus gain trust and loyalty because usually companies are thought of as being just profit motivated. Your company is full of real people. Your employees, even if they are sales folks can still connect as humans. Humans can also want to do business with you. But your sales team has to prioritize showing their human side as well as showing interest in your customers’ personal life challenges too. Once a deeper relationship is accomplished, it becomes quite difficult for competitors to steal away your customers.

Make a point of taking at least one good customer to lunch each week, just to say thank you for your business and you will surprised how fast your business grows!

But, you need to make things easy for people wanting to take advantage of becoming your partners and affiliates. Your job is to make all the necessary marketing tools, like promotional literature, product photos, videos and audios that detail the features of your products and services.

You need to guarantee your products and supply quality customer support so your customers and affiliates are not left dealing with complaints and refunds.

Yes, you can still sell your own product lines and services direct to the end user too but the volume and viral e-business is done by pitching to other entrepreneurs! Those you sell to then go out and sell to their friends, clients, customers and fan bases, many of whom will also take the opportunity to become an affiliate of your company too.

<![CDATA[There’s No Such Thing as Small Business Gurus]]>Tue, 21 Jul 2015 03:33:12 GMThttp://gurumarketingtips.com/web-guru/-theres-no-such-thing-as-small-business-gurus “Successful Business is always done LARGE… by HUGE BIZ THINKERS” – Stu Leventhal GURU MARKETING TIPS!

Online Guru Success
By Stu Leventhal

Offline business leaders in charge of large or small companies certainly understand the power of protecting the company brand image at all costs. Every publicity stunt, advertisement, promotional ploy is weighed from the perspective of how it will affect the public’s opinion of the company as a whole.

So, why, when we go Online are all bets are off! We seem to lose all of our money making reasoning and common business sense when the internet is added to the equation!

Most online marketing campaigns are chaotic to say the least. It is not okay to use any means possible to promote online!

You need to promote with strategies that are right for your company situation whether you are marketing online or offline. It is also no longer alright to ignore the internet! You are expected to maintain at least the minimum web real estate; a website, a blog, the popular social media accounts.

People will use the web to find out more about you and your business or your clients’ businesses. If they can’t find you fast they give up then go mingle with your competitors!

If where the search engines send people when they search for you and your type of products and services are a disgrace or confusing looking or do not function well or explain you well, your visitors judge you by that. They have nothing else to go by!

Know that whatever you publish online or off, represents you and your company! Online stuff has a far reach and long life! Your integrity and the integrity of your marketing program must be of the highest level wherever you are promoting online, offline or anywhere. Yes, social media marketing too! Internet marketing schemes do not help your company’s image; they hinder the building of the power behind your brand’s image.

Schemes slow down your company’s growth. People do not forget fast or forgive easily!

Always bear in mind that mobs like to spread misery, gossip and slander; it is much tougher to get people to back you when you are doing good works than to spread the word when you slip up!

Furthermore, quality always beats quantity when it comes to effective web property producing a healthy return on one’s investment. One’s investment meaning dollars or hours spent!

Time is money too! We have to work on things that get us the best results and that means we must be able to focus and direct our efforts.

Yes, there is an Internet Marketing Culture that has been preaching volume as the answer to web success. This ridiculous pursuit of publishing more faster is because the majority of people calling themselves internet marketers have no real, practical hands on experience with running any companies properly or successfully. They know little to nothing about making money, competing in a market place, raising one's profits, lowering production costs, selling, partnering or creating successful ads or writing promotional, persuasive, intelligent copy.

Self titled geniuses
abound especially online but they cannot teach what they know nothing about and have never done! It is easy to preach the newest I-techie stuff which is fine for fast speed but can they tell you how to relate the technology to the present business selling world or specifically to your customers and web content consuming audiences.

When what these self proclaimed business experts are preaching to you does not work for you; they always tell you that it is your own fault! You gave up too soon! Volume, volume, volume! Keep going, you’ll see, it will kick in soon.

“Post more and publish more!” They advise. “Create more, more, more and eventually you will start making money…If you are not making money then you just are not posting enough!” As if a crappy marketing, ad or promotional method will miraculously just start working someday in the future, all on its own!

Posting more of something that is already not being received well by your cyber audience is almost always going to damage your company or your client’s company and will impede sales not grow sales.

If you cannot make money with what you are already doing then you need to rethink and improve what you have already started, not start another hair brain project again and again and again! Why increase the volume of what is not working? You’ve tried it and proved it stinks! Fix it or move on!

Good business writing and copy writing sells; it does not need gadgetry! Great copy is the gadgetry! Great copy writing produces magic all by itself!
Stop running in place like a gerbil on an exercise wheel!

You can make money and have real results with any type of web marketing you choose if you take the time to learn how it works and do it right. What basic principles does your method use to catch the eye? What is the tactic that persuades? Analyze your strategy. Look over every aspect of what you are doing. Spruce up the sloppy stuff. Write clearer text. Upgrade your photography. Does your website load fast when someone first lands there? If not, find out why!

Right now you need to look over the web property you have, as if you are an unbiased visitor and then determine what is good web content and what stinks!

Do not scrap anything that stinks yet. Why don’t scrap? Because, if you have people linking to the stuff you scrap; you will lose all those links, link juice, SEO and anyone who would have followed those links to your pages or posts are lost. Later I will tell you how to redirect the traffic the right way so your links stay live and people are funneled to a better performing web property you own or manage.

But to be honest, at this point, any web effort you have up online that is not performing can be redesigned easily to better perform without losing any links. So, step one to building a cyberspace kingdom is finding out what is good and what is not. Step two is fixing what is broke instead of scrapping it. Scrutinize it, get some objective opinions and then make it better! It is faster and easier to fix and improve than to delete things and start over from scratch!

We first need to build a solid base and get it performing then we expand!

Step one is to take stock of all your web real estate. Make a list and then detail that list. If you are like most small businesses you already have figured out you need a YouTube account with some amateurish videos posted on it. You need a Pinterest account with some pin boards of photos pertaining to your industry and to your customers’ lifestyles and images chronicling your company’s activities, message and journey.

You need a micro blog; Twitter for announcing things and you need a Facebook account. This is besides your main website and blog.

Now chose one thing to perfect. Yes just one! Pick a social media account or maybe you like taking photos so you want to master Pinterest or if videos are your thing then YouTube would be the social site to learn.

Know that if you cannot learn and master one marketing method, how can you expect yourself to master multiple marketing methods? Managing a whole slew of poorly performing social media accounts is more of an embarrassment than a plus! But, how many people do you know who are great at photography and videography and writing and tech suave too? NONE!

The web is full of promotional opportunity but you cannot just jump from one to another trying each out then moving on. It is not a treasure search. We are building something worthwhile, not a house of cards. You are not hoping to stumble into your fortune; you are a business pro who competes to win!

Give yourself and your company the Entrepreneurial Advantage...

<![CDATA[The Web Merchant]]>Mon, 20 Jul 2015 13:23:05 GMThttp://gurumarketingtips.com/web-guru/-the-web-merchant Becoming an Online Web Guru

Cyberspace Landlord
By Stu Leventhal

There are a lot of ways to make web property pay its own way; you can charge people to advertise or write reviews for other companies’ products or sell products and services like an online mall store.

The key is obviously having a decent place online that people like to visit because then your options for monetizing are wide open.

People visit then return visit to places in the vast web over and over again only when those places publish things that they cannot find anywhere else! Thus the number one advice for publishing success online is to make your web real estate unique, not like any other place online or offline!

The more unique web property you manage the more audiences you can reach and then the more loyalty you can win and thus ultimately the more money you can make. The problem is that the more cyber hangouts you construct; blogs, websites, social media pages and posts, the more work you have to do to maintain them all in working functional order.

Neglected web realty does you no good and in fact will hurt your brand image, company persona and personal reputation in your field.

We all want to own and control lots of fun places online. But volume is not always the answer especially for businesses and people who are just getting started online.

Trying to do too much too fast is where most people go wrong when they try to market digitally on the net. There is always going to be so much going on and so much more fascinating stuff we all wish we could learn more about and play around with. Even the pros and veterans find themselves getting in over their heads and then the need to cut back arises in order to keep things in focus.

You cannot learn and master everything at once! SPECIALIZE!

Playing around with the newest fad can be dangerous and hurtful to all your previous endeavors. Spreading yourself too thin weakens your work because your concentration is diluted.

When someone sees your poor efforts that is what they remember. Your competitors are also waiting for the chance to expose your bad publishing online. When you become a threat the competition will find your junk, yes still floating around in cyberspace years after creation and they will expose you.

It is most important to do one thing right at a time plus do it the very best you can instead of taking on way too much and not accomplish anything impressive with any of it.

If our products, services and clients we represent are worthy, useful, worthwhile and valuable then everyone should expect us to tell them all about them. There is nothing shady about telling people about something that will make their lives easier, more enjoyable or put money in their pockets! Good marketing is good business. Good business is good for everyone!

There is nothing immoral about pitching goods and service, unless you are telling lies! Anyone can lie; not everyone can market, promote, pitch and persuade well!

Long term promotional value requires honest sales technique anything less risks long term negative notoriety! Bad publicity can stay around on the web for a long time and get passed around doing loads of company, as well as personal image damage.

There are tons of types of web content you can post to promote a company, brand or service; photos, creative text, videos, audio, drawings, data graphs, graphics… I feel you should try to get great at any one or two but use all the others too. Become amazing and known for being a super creative writer, or an imaginative photog or a brilliant videographer then build the rest of your internet empire around what your expertise is. Let the other aspects of web content creating round out and support your proffered showcase expertise.

To stand out among all the noise online you need to be wonderful at something; the go to person for which people seek you out or follow you to experience!

Just remember the genius of the web and the attraction to web content is in the mass diversity of the available content itself. Your success will depend not only on publishing great stuff but also on how well you learn how to display and present your master pieces of content. Web Content always looks better when it is presented in context. Just like a great oil painting relies on the beauty and appropriateness of the frame that surrounds the canvas and a well written play is better appreciated due to the ambiance of the stage it is performed on as well as the props, scenery, costume, makeup and strength of the actors and directing.

As with all great works, to thrive, web content relies too on its relationship with everything else around it, how it fits in and interacts with whatever else is influencing its audience all contributes to the success or failure. Thus a big piece of the puzzle to successful web content marketing has to do with being gifted at determining when to publish what and knowing what should accompany what you publish when you publish…TIMING!

The icing on the cake is being able to announce your new efforts once you publish them and that requires hard work and organization. You need to be set up in a lot of places so you can start planting the seed early. Think of your content as a new Hollywood movie that will hit the theaters a few months from now. Hollywood producers begin telling us all about a movie, way before its debut date! No matter how big the stars of a movie are no one expects the movie to sell and promote its own tickets.

STAKING YOUR CLAIM IN CYBERSPACE

                By Stu Leventhal

You probably already play around online a few times a day; researching stuff, using the many convenient, communication capabilities to connect with friends to send and receive messages. You talk the tech talk because being a techie is in vogue! Anyone who is anyone knows about tech gadgets!

Do you have a website, blog, some social media accounts? Are they personal web real estate or company web property? Are your web properties being managed for free? Did it cost you money to set them up?

If you set up your web real estate by yourself for free then you may be taking your hard work for granted. We often under value our own time spent working, especially when working online. We consider it free if we did it our self, no matter how many hours it took us to accomplish! This is a big mistake; you could have been working on something else, earning a salary!

Pay yourself for time spent building your web real estate. What I mean by this is, make sure your web real estate earns you money. Whether you run a blog, a website or a social media campaign combining and entwining your Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social accounts; if you are spending time working at it then it needs to be kicking back some money to warrant your efforts! START HOLDING YOUR WEB REAL ESTATE ACCOUNTABLE!

Step one to building a Cyberspace play-land is setting up analytics. You must monitor what web property is successful and what is wasted space! Otherwise you will spend your time online chasing rainbows.

How do you know what web strategy to repeat if you are unsure what is working for you? How do you give your loyal audience and fans more of what they love if you do not know what they love? Chances are, without great analytical web data you are posting and publishing a lot of stuff no one likes or cares about!

Many feel it is okay to start a blog then leave it in cyberspace, unmanned, unmanaged for months. Know that your poor efforts are killing your good efforts! You have a rep and street cred online! The techies who like your good stuff will find your lame stuff too! Let's fix that dead weight!

The guru key to building a digital empire lies with identifying your junky work and then improving it.

I am not suggesting that you scrap your poor performing cyber efforts. I do want you to know exactly what sites, pages and posts, photos and video are doing their jobs and which are not. The key is not to keep scraping the bad then replacing it with more of the good; it is a little bit more complicated than that. If you keep deleting your bad performing stuff you then have to create something entirely new to take its place. Can you see how that becomes like running on a tread mill and going no place fast?

The recipe for building a huge cyber community online requires you to try stuff that may not work. You should be trying out lots of stuff that is failing otherwise how will you uncover the magic that works for your situation and fan base?

The blue print for cyber success is you make the best decision you can when you try something new out and of course always put your best effort into it. Give your idea a chance to take hold. There was once some reason you thought even your worst idea was a great idea. So, now let’s find out why those bad plans are not working out like we dreamed they would...then we'll fix them!

Always act! Act! ACT!

Why not error on the side of caution? Because caution was yesteryears method!

Our business suave predecessors did not have the super fast, digital arena and speedy, efficient high tech tools we have now. When you error, you have the capability to know about your mistake immediately. You also have the means to make some super fast, adjustments to instantly turn things around so you are heading, once again, back towards a win!

There you have it; if you are not taking advantage of the super fast tools and easy to operate gadgets at your disposal you are not working modernly enough. Success is all about time; speeding things up! Speed is the edge that technology gives us; use the speed that is at your finger tips!

So, back to the cyber empire blueprint…

Take your best shot with whatever you are trying to do! In fact take a few best shots. There is no need to worry if your ideas are perfect; we are going to make them perfect as we go along!

You make a decision that is meant to move your company or personal situation forward. You act and put your decision into play.
