Keep Business Fun!
By Stu Leventhal
When you enjoy what you are doing, you do not call it work...
Starting a business or running a company for someone else as manager is tough. Things go wrong. You often cannot please customers and employees and your Board of Directors too.
Stress abounds in any business environment. Turmoil and finger pointing can set in quick when you lose a big contract. Biz owners and bosses must keep their sense of humor going, to get by. It is a Bosses job to help the crew ride out the bad times.
Thus, over the years I have noticed, all great managers have a fantastic sense of humor.
TIP: If you are the boss, SMILE a lot.
Do not let the team see you are rattled by the sudden bad turn of events.
"There are no such things as problems, only opportunities!"
Tell a joke! Humor diffuses anger and eases worries.
When the boss is happy, everyone can relax.
You have to be able to laugh and poke fun at yourself when things in the office go sideways.
Lots of times your bad sales numbers are out of your hands. Markets in all industries run hot and also run cold. The role of a good boss is to keep the employees enthusiastic and focused thru the good and bad times.
Laughter is the best healer. If your company is going to claw its way back on top, you'll need to share lots of laughs along the journey.
Remember that as a Boss, you also must be able to take a joke too.
MANAGER: "Why are you all standing around doing nothing?"
Employee: "Because we all aspire to be just as hard a worker as you Boss."
2nd Employee: "Yes Boss, you lead by example, so we are following your example."
IMPORTANT TIP FOR EMPLOYEES: Yes, it is okay to enjoy work and that requires joking around sometimes. Funny people do get ahead. Just keep in mind one rule... "The bosses jokes are always the funniest!"
